Dr Ahmed Shadol

Dr. Ahmed Shadoul

I am currently the Secretary General of Sudan Medical Specialization Board, and Director of Arab Health Specialization Board, Sudan Office, as well as a Senior Advisor to the Federal Minister of Health, and Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. I am also the Goodwill Ambassador for Health for Sudan. I am a highly recognized and established leader of top national institutions and advisors to several national and international organizations, as well as a highly skillful pediatrician with strong public health orientation and experience. With over 30 years experience in different aspects of medical and health care. I graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University Khartoum and received my post graduate training as a pediatrician in University of Liverpool, UK, with additional post graduate degrees in communication and health education; Disaster Management and information technology. I have over 30 years experience in planning, implementing, monitoring, supervising and evaluating maternal, neonatal and child health and disease control programmes in developing and developed countries. I have played a key part in pioneering the implementation of the Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI) in Sudan and the Eastern Mediterranean Region.

I have vast knowledge and experience of the UN system, was the Chief of Health and Nutrition section at UNICEF, Sudan; Medical officer at WHO Sudan. I have taken several missions and assignments to assist EMR countries (Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, , Jordan, Morocco, Pakistan, Syria and Yemen) in planning, adapting, implementing and reviewing the IMNCI programmes. I was appointed by WHO as an International Child Health Promotion Medical Officer for two years in post-conflict Afghanistan, and during this period I have developed innovative initiatives and interventions used to initiate and develop National Child Health and Nutrition Policies and help in developing national policies for management of all forms of malnutrition in women and children.
I have joined WHO Pakistan Country office and assisted their MoH in finalizing the Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health National strategy documents. My technical contributions and in depth knowledge culminated in establishing a National Maternal and Child Health (MNCH) program in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and have played an important role in strengthening the capacity of National and partners at Federal, Provincial and District levels in implementing the Pakistan National Health Policy and the Devolution Process. Have supported the GoP in many areas including strengthening the health system, resource mobilization through Global Fund, GAVI and Norwegian Pakistan Partnership (NPPI). Successfully led the massive humanitarian operations during the Pakistan Earthquake 2005, Swat IDP crises of 2009 and The Megafloods of Pakistan in 2010, and coordinated all the emergency health relief interventions. I was an active member of the UN Task force for One UN Joint Programme in Pakistan, and the chairperson of the UN task force for developing and implementing a contingency plan for Avian Influenza. Prior to my joining the UN system, I was a senior Government Official in different positions in Sudan including, State Minister of Health for Darfur State, Director General of Primary Health Care at the Federal Ministry of Health. During my tenure, I have restructured the PHC department to achieve new roles and accommodate new developments. Have led a number of essential reforms in the FMoH and developed the strategic plans, particularly, the initiation and finalization of the 25-years FMOH strategic plan (2000-2025).
I have been the Head of Mission and WHO Representative in Afghanistan and Yemen where I led two of the largest humanitarian operations along with the development components. In spite of all the difficulties and multiple frequent emergencies, I was able to successfully manage WHO core functions at country level and provided leadership in Advocacy, Partnership and Representation, Policy Development and Technical Cooperation, and Administration and management. I was an upstream policy adviser to the governments and promoted an effective health dimension to social, economic, environmental and  development policy; Assessments of broad political trends at the global and regional level and their implications on national health programmes and promoting coordination amongst health development partners.
In Policy Development and Technical Cooperation, I have managed to catalyze policy development through informed social and health policy options in ways that stimulate action and help to build sustainable national health systems and capacity in the health sector.
During the UN evacuation from Yemen in 2015, I acted as the Humanitarian Coordinator as well as the UN Resident Coordinator for Yemen, and during this time I coordinated and managed all the Humanitarian interventions as well as controlling the different disease outbreaks that took place in a very complicated operation due to the total siege of the country, and successfully managed to lead the access negotiation between the different fighting factions and mobilized considerable resources to Yemen humanitarian operation.
I have been elected by the WHA 2022 as senior staff member of WHO Staff Pension Committee. I am also a member of the TAG of WHO Global Code of practice on international recruitment of HealthPersonnel. It is equally important to mention that I’m currently the Secretary General of the Sudan Medical Specialization Board which is the sole institute responsible for professional medical and alliedhealth postgraduate  training in Sudan, has over 10,000 Students currently enrolled in training in more than 150 accredited training sites mentored by 2,000 trainers all over Sudan, I am also the Director of Arab Health Specialization Board, Sudan Office and the Coordinator of the Egyptian Fellowship Board. With regards to the COVID pandemic, I have played a paramount role during the efforts to manage and control COVID-19 Pandemic; while supporting the FMoH in managing and controlling the different disease outbreaks that occurred during the past few years.

prof Sumaia

Prof. Sumaia Mohamed Al Fadil

Dr. Sumaia Alfadil is an expert of public health and a professor of community medicine with an extensive experience of over 30 years in health system development, research, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescents’ health (RMNCAH), health promotion and community-based initiatives.

 During this period Dr Sumaia has served in different positions including six years at the state ministry of health/Gezira, 13 years at WHO country offices in Sudan and Pakistan and as a head of the community medicine department, Nile University, Sudan for the last 11 years up to date.  The experience, Dr Sumaia has gained during this path, is a result of working with different capacities as a team member or a lead consultant with different entities including but not limited to: ministries of health, UN agencies (WHO, UNICEF, WFP, FAO, national and international NGOs etc..). The areas of work focus on developing: strategies, programmes’ guidelines, training materials, national and international workforce capacities, research protocols, field surveys , programme evaluation etc..

Dr Sumaia has proven skills in leadership and management, including innovation, team building, coordination, effective communication and partnership development.

Dr. Nada Hamza

Dr. Nada Hamza is a humanitarian and development expert specializing in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) with over a decade of experience. She excels in resource mobilization, strategic communication, and partnership management, effectively delivering reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health programs in diverse and challenging contexts.

Dr. Hamza holds an MD, an MPH, and a master’s in management of international organizations. She has worked with international organizations such as WHO and UNFPA, conducting assessments and developing strategic plans to enhance healthcare service quality.

At WHO, Dr. Hamza led the development and implementation of maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health plans, and contributed to various training manuals. At UNFPA, she spearheaded SRHR emergency response in Yemen, Ethiopia, and Sudan, integrating SRHR and GBV services and implementing the Minimal Initial Service Package for Reproductive Health (MISP for RH). She also facilitated several trainings on MISP for RH, clinical management of rape (CMR), and STI management. Her efforts with UNMEER in Sierra Leone resulted in the safe restoration of health services post-Ebola eradication in the country.

Her role at the Embassy of Canada involved guiding development programs and fostering successful partnerships, leading to initiatives like Sudan’s Free of FGM project and the UNFPA-WHO SRHR initiative. Adept in results-based management (RBM), Dr. Hamza ensures accountability and measurable outcomes in her projects.

Fluent in English and Arabic, she leverages her language skills to foster collaboration and drive change in multicultural environments

Dr Hassan

Dr. Hassan El Bushra

MD, MPH, PhD (UCLA), MFPHM (UK)

A highly accomplished Medical Epidemiologist with over four decades of experience leading preparedness and response initiatives for significant infectious disease outbreaks throughout the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR). He demonstrated expertise in capacity building, surveillance system enhancement, and fostering collaborative partnerships with governments and international organizations. His impressive academic credentials are complemented by a wealth of practical experience. He has tackled outbreaks at local, national, and regional levels, spearheaded an epidemiology research unit, and advised government health ministries. His acquired a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in the field of epidemiology.

Dr El Bushra served as a high-level WHO-EMRO Regional Adviser on Emerging and Communicable Diseases. His work focused on responding to emerging disease outbreaks, revising the IHR 2005, developing partnerships, and strengthening surveillance systems within the EMR. He led a five-year collaborative project with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to enhance the capacity of all 21 EMR countries to rapidly detect, assess, respond to, and contain public health threats posed by highly pathogenic avian influenza and human pandemic influenza. In country-specific roles, Dr El Bushra represented WHO-EMRO in Saudi Arabia, leading preparedness and response efforts during the Hajj season and MERS-CoV outbreaks. As WHO-EMRO’s representative to Lebanon and Iraq (a.i.), he strategically guided the response to the Syrian crisis, focusing on coordination, technical support, capacity building, health awareness, access to health services, and outbreak control.

In addition, Dr El Bushra established and headed the Epidemiology Research Unit at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSH-RC). He led studies on behavioural risk factors contributing to preventing epidemic-prone communicable diseases and improving the quality of health services provided to pilgrims to Makkah. He also served as advisor to the Deputy Minister of Health for Public Health on all activities related to emerging MERS-CoV outbreaks.

Professor Samira Hamid Abdelrahman | Community Medicine Consultant

MBBS (Faculty of Medicine University of Khartoum), High Diploma of Public Health (DPH) University of Gezira, MSc (Health Education) University of Gezira, MD (Community Medicine), SMSB Sudan

A recognized academic leader with distinguished career (of over 30 years) at the University of Gezira (UofG) and other Sudanese universities. Prof. Samira has extensive experience in policy development and evaluation, e.g the HIV self-testing policy. She worked in development and reviewing national strategic plans for health promotion and disease control. She worked as a consultant for several UN agencies such as WHO, UNFPA, UNAIDS, UNICEF, and the Sudan Federal Ministry of Health. Her work includes feasibility studies and program evaluations across diverse health topics, including malaria, HIV/AIDS, immunization coverage, and midwifery pre-service training. She also contributes to the WHO Malaria Policy Advisory Group (MPAG) and the Regional Program Review Group on Neglected Tropical Diseases (RPRG-NTDs, WHO EMRO).

Prof. Samira led (2017 to 2020) the Prospective Country Evaluation (PCE) for the Global Fund’s Technical Evaluation Reference Group (TERG), assessing the Global Fund’s business model, investments, and impact. Her strategic efforts also include developing contextualized training curricula and assessment tools to build the capacity of different categories of health professionals on many public health aspects, including – but not limited to: Malaria, vector borne diseases (VBDs), neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), sexually transmitted infections (STIs), sexual and reproductive health (SRH) for general and vulnerable populations, sexual and gender based violence (SGBV), HIV & AIDS, WASH, project management, research development and management. Her work includes creating training curricula, assessment tools, and guides, e.g the ‘Malaria Teachers’ Guides’ for Sudan and Somalia.

With a career spanning over three decades, Prof. Samira has led numerous initiatives aimed at capacity development in health and research. From 2008 to 2016, she coordinated a consortium to enhance research development and management of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programs in African universities. She has held several leadership positions at the University of Gezira and other Sudanese universities. These include serving as Head of the Community Medicine Department (2004–2008), Dean of the Blue Nile National Institute for Communicable Diseases (2010–2018), and Dean of the Deanship of Scientific Research and Innovations (2018–2020). She has played a pivotal role in enhancing academic-health sector partnerships, expanding public health-related degree programs, and strengthening research governance and graduate supervision systems. Her research interests span malaria, vector-borne diseases, HIV/AIDS, WASH, child health and health service utilization, health professions education, integrated biobehavioral surveillance surveys (IBBS) and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) programs targeting both general and vulnerable populations. Prof. Samira’s work thus emphasizes identifying socio-behavioral and health system determinants to design evidence-based, innovative strategies and interventions. She has established partnerships with prominent regional and international academic and research institutions, contributing to the development and management of impactful research initiatives.
